Flint Hills Resources plans solar installation in Corpus Christi

Refinery would be powered by 72-megawatt solar plant

Project would be second company-owned solar installation for Flint Hills Resources

Flint Hills Resources has announced it will build a solar installation to help power its Corpus Christi refinery in Texas. The 72-megawatt solar project will be built by DEPCOM Power and is expected to be completed in 2026.

The solar installation will be the second company-owned solar project for Flint Hills Resources. In 2023, DEPCOM completed construction of a similar 45-megawatt solar project at Flint Hills Resources' Pine Bend refinery in Minnesota.

The Corpus Christi solar installation will be the refinery's second source of on-site renewable energy. In 2022, Flint Hills Resources installed a 4-megawatt wind turbine at the refinery.

The solar installation is part of Flint Hills Resources' commitment to sustainability. The company has set a goal of reducing its greenhouse gas emissions by 30% by 2030.

"This solar installation is a significant step toward achieving our sustainability goals," said Jeff Lange, president of Flint Hills Resources. "We are committed to investing in renewable energy and reducing our environmental impact."

The solar installation will also help Flint Hills Resources lower its energy costs and improve the energy efficiency of its Corpus Christi refinery.

"We are excited to partner with DEPCOM on this project," said Lange. "DEPCOM has a proven track record of success in developing and constructing solar projects."

DEPCOM is a leading developer and constructor of solar projects in the United States. The company has developed and constructed over 1,000 megawatts of solar projects.

"We are pleased to be working with Flint Hills Resources on this important project," said DEPCOM CEO Kevin Dillon. "This solar installation will help Flint Hills Resources achieve its sustainability goals and reduce its energy costs."
