France Gall: French pop icon dies at 70

French singer France Gall, who rose to fame in the 1960s, has died at the age of 70 after a two-year battle with cancer.

The singer, who was born Isabelle Geneviève Marie Anne Gall in Paris on October 9, 1947, was one of the most popular singers of the yé-yé era, a French pop music movement of the 1960s. Gall released her first album in 1963 and went on to release a total of 17 studio albums, eight live albums, and 11 compilation albums over the course of her career. She also represented Luxembourg in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1965 and won with the song "Poupée de cire, poupée de son".
