Dallas Mavericks Picks

James Johnson Traded from Mavericks

Former Power Forward Dealt to Pistons

Johnson's departure signals a shift in Mavericks' roster

In a surprising move, the Dallas Mavericks have traded power forward James Johnson to the Detroit Pistons as part of a three-team deal involving the Los Angeles Clippers.

Johnson, who averaged 6.8 points and 4.7 rebounds per game last season, had been a key part of the Mavericks' rotation in recent years. However, the team's acquisition of Kristaps Porzingis this summer signaled that Johnson's role was likely to be reduced.

The Mavericks will receive two second-round picks in return for Johnson, who is entering the final year of his contract. The Clippers, who acquired Johnson from the Pistons, will send Los Angeles a future first-round pick as part of the deal.

Johnson's departure leaves a void in the Mavericks' frontcourt, but it also gives the team some flexibility as they look to build around Porzingis and Luka Doncic.
